The opposite of love is not hate, but apathy. For if you hate someone you are still caring about them. This is why children who are ignored will act out and misbehave just for a scrap of attention, whether it is positive or negative, they just want you to care. So remember that next time you say, "I don't care!" to someone you love. And remember that when you worry about what other people think about your hair or clothes - do you love those random people on the street? No? Then don't care!
